Crossing faith & history!
Santuário de Fátima
It stands on the site where, on May 13, 1917, the three children played when suddenly they saw a lightning frightened them and caused join the flock to return home.
The project was designed by Dutch architect Gerard Van Kriechen and continued by architect João Antunes. On May 13, 1928 the first stone was blessed by the Archbishop of Évora.
A mystical and very special place that gives color to the heart and gives strength and courage to devotees.
In 2017 we will celebrate the centenary of the apparition.
Batalha
Born of faith of John I, the Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória, commonly known as the Batalha Monastery, spurred the formation and the subsequent transformation of the territory for over six centuries.
Undergone expansions and changes over time with particular emphasis on the great 1755 earthquake that was also felt in these lands.
The memorial function of the Monastery is accentuated in the 20th century with the construction of the memorial to the unknown soldier in reference to the 1st World War. A work of architecture to cross several periods of Portuguese architecture.
Alcobaça
The Abbey of Santa Maria de Alcobaça was built by Cistercian monks between 1178 and 1254, following the model of his house mother of the Cistercian Order at Clairvaux, France.
Where is the tomb of King Pedro I and the grave of Mrs Inês de Castro. These two Gothic tombs, about 1360, are testament to the tragic love story between these two characters in the history of Portugal.
A Romeo and Juliet but real before Shakespeare’s story. Finally, let us remember the cultural importance of this monastery, where in 1269 it gave the first public school in Portugal, where he wrote much of the medieval codices and Portuguese where the greatest historical study of Portugal was produced.
Nazaré
Besides the beautiful fishing village and the famous giant waves that were ridden by the famous surfer Garret McNamara, we have the legend that delights us all: Account Legend of Nazareth at dawn September 14th, 1182, D. Fuas Roupinho, hunted along the coast, surrounded by a dense fog, when he saw a deer which began to pursue.
The deer headed for a cliff. D. Fuas, in the fog, at the precipice, was right next to a grotto with a statue of Our Lady with the Child. Then prayed aloud: “Lady save me” !. Immediately and miraculously stopped the horse, digging his paws on rocky boulder suspended over the void, the nozzle of the Miracle, thus saving the rider and his mount from certain death.
He dismounted and went to pray and thank the miracle. Then ordered to build a chapel in memory of the miracle, the Chapel of Remembrance. Can still see the stone marked the hooves of the horse D.Fuas!
Vila Mediaval de Óbidos
An odd medieval village that does transport us in time for its beauty, scenery, or its gastronomy you can certainly not go without drinking the liquor ginginha on its chocolate cup, something typical of the land and certainly you want to take with you and share with everyone!
On 11 January 1148, the first king, Afonso Henriques, took Obidos to the Arabs. The Cruise of Memory is a simple monument of the time. Obidos belonged to defensive pentagon (five of castles), the center of the kingdom, created by the Templars. By offering Óbidos as a wedding gift of D. Dinis to his wife Isabel, the village was owned by House of Queens, only abolished in 1834, and here spent the majority of the queens of Portugal, leaving large benefits. Obidos also suffered from the great earthquake of 1755 and was the scene of peninsular battles.
More recently also staged strategy for revolution Captains April.
